This guide provides instructions and information about Stanford Web Services Jumpstart platform, based on Drupal 7.
We've released our new Stanford Sites on Drupal 8 (D8) platform — the new framework for Stanford Sites in 2020 and beyond. Check out our new User Guide to help you set up your website on the D8 platform.
Jumpstart Engineering (JSE) websites are synced with Community Academic Profiles (CAP). There are four different recommended workflows for filling out profiles, depending on your affiliation: Faculty, Staff, Student, and Non-Stanford (not in CAP).
All Faculty profiles are added to your site automatically through CAP. Profile information must be edited in CAP and the person's profile must be set to public in order for the profile to be transferred. Once profiles are transferred from CAP to your site through the CAPx module, a department administrator will need to manually fill out the Affiliation, Office Hours, Office location, Mail Code, and Faculty Status fields on each local profile. For instructions on how to locally edit a profile, refer to the People section of the user guide. The Affiliation, Office Hours, Office location, Mail Code, and Faculty Status fields are the only fields that can be edited locally if CAP is synced, and can only be edited by someone with Site Owner or Editor role. Any additional profile changes must be made in CAP directly by the faculty member or a delegated editor. The changes will be reflected in the next CAPx import.
All Staff profiles are added to your site through CAP. Profile information must be edited in CAP and the person's profile must be set to public in order for the profile to be transferred. Profiles will then be synced from CAP to your site through the CAPx module. If you wish to make changes to a Staff profile, you must edit the person's profile in CAP. Staff profiles should not be edited locally on your site, other than to assign the Staff affiliation and to set the Staff Type field (e.g. "Department Administrator"). Any changes you make to a CAP profile will be reflected on your site in the next CAPx import.
Students profiles can be synced with your site if they are eligible to have CAP profiles (e.g. graduate students), and are part of the workgroup that is set up to be synced with CAP. Non-CAP-eligible students will need to have their profiles created locally on the site by a Site Owner or Editor. For instructions on how to locally create a profile. Students can only edit their own profiles if they have access to their CAP profile, otherwise if a student wishes to make edits to their profile, they will have to contact the department administrator to make the changes for them.
Once student profiles are added or synced, the Site Owner or Editor will need to set the Affiliation field to Student for those profiles.
A Site Owner or Editor will need to manually add any non-Stanford (non-CAP) profiles locally to the site. When adding a non-Stanford profile, make sure to fill out the Affiliation field. For instructions on how to manually create a profile. If a non-Stanford person wishes to make changes to their profile, they must contact the Site Owner or Editor to make changes for them.
