This guide provides instructions and information about Stanford Web Services Jumpstart platform, based on Drupal 7.

We've released our new Stanford Sites on Drupal 8 (D8) platform — the new framework for Stanford Sites in 2020 and beyond. Check out our new User Guide to help you set up your website on the D8 platform.

Change the page URL

Site owners and editors have permission to change the page URL.

Sometimes page titles can be long resulting in a long URL path.  You may want to shorten the URL path for convenience in sending a direct link to the page.  For example: sites.stanford.edu/foo/really-long-url-title can be changed to sites.stanford.edu/foo/short-title.

  1. Click the Edit tab for that page.
  2. On the page edit form, scroll toward the bottom of the page and click on the URL path settings horizontal tab.
  3. Uncheck the Generate automatic URL alias.
  4. In the URL alias field, enter the new URL.
  5. Scroll to the bottom and click Save.

Note: If the URL alias already exists, you will get an error message "The alias is already in use." You will need to change the short URL and then re-save the page.
