Gallery

The Stanford Gallery is used to display multiple images on a single page in your website. You can display a gallery in a block or on a full page.

Site owners can add, edit, and delete any gallery. Editors can only edit any galleries. Contact Stanford Web Services to set up and place a gallery block on your site.

A single gallery is limited to 105 images. If you plan to display more than 105 images in a gallery, we recommend using Stanford Box to host and store the images.

Creating a gallery

  1. From the Site Actions Menu, click on Add Gallery.
  2. In the Title field, add the title of your event.
  3. In the Description field, enter the gallery description.
  4. In the Thumbnail Size field, click the drop-down menu to select your image size.
  5. In the Show Captions field, click the checkbox to show display captions in a pop-up modal.
  6. In the Image field, click Choose File to select your image to upload.  Click Open, then click Upload.
  7. Add Alternative text for the image.
  8. Add optional image Credits and Caption information
  9. Click Save.

Updating a gallery

There are several ways to update a gallery.  If you are on a gallery page, click the Edit tab to make your changes.

Searching for a gallery

  1. From the Site Actions menu, select Manage Content.
  2. In the Manage Content by Type section on the right-hand side of the page, click the Manage Gallery link.
  3. From this page, you can find all the galleries. You can sort many of the columns by clicking on the header title, or search using the filters.  

Editing a gallery

  1. From the Manage Gallery page, click Edit for the gallery you want to change.
  2. Update/enter values as described under Creating a gallery.

Bulk editing galleries

  1. From the Manage Gallery page, click the checkboxes to select multiple galleries you want to change.
  2. Click the Choose an operation arrow to choose an operation (e.g., Delete, Publish, Unpublish).
  3. Confirm the changes.

Unpublishing/deleting a gallery

You can either unpublish a gallery to keep it on the site (making it unviewable by the public), or you can completely delete the gallery.  Deleting a gallery is not reversible.

  1. To unpublish a gallery: From the Manage Gallery page, click Edit for the gallery you want to unpublish. In the Publishing options horizontal tab, uncheck the Published status, then click Save.
  2. To delete an event: From the Manage Gallery page, click Delete for the gallery you want to delete. (Bulk delete is optional.  See Bulk edit galleries.)

Stanford gallery feature fields

FIELD DESCRIPTION
Title The gallery title.
Description This formatted text field is the gallery description (e.g., This gallery features images of...).
Thumbnail Size Select the size of the thumbnails displayed on the page. (e.g., Small, Medium, Large, Large Scaled).
Show Captions This box is used to display the captions in the modal pop up.
Image Upload a png, gif, jpg or jpeg file to the site.
